About Sofia

My name is Sofia Kamal.

I’m a Pakistani Muslim writer, born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona — currently studying mathematics and art practice at Stanford University.

My poems have been published by the Academy of American Poets (opens in a new tab) and in Poems from the 2024 National Student Poets (opens in a new tab), among others. I was invited to speak at the Academy of American Poets’ 2025 Gala for Poetry & the Creative Mind (opens in a new tab).

My writing and visual art have been recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, YoungArts, The Adroit Journal’s Summer Mentorship Program, and the Tempe Festival of the Arts.

I served as the 2024 National Student Poet of the Southwest, and as an editor for the student-run literary magazine Pegasus.
